The Labovitch organisation strongly believes in contributing to the community, and in particular has chosen to assist a school building project in Cambodia (South East Asia).
Cambodia, one of the poorest countries in the world, is recovering from 20 years of war and civil disturbance. At peace now, the country is developing well and has a bright future.
Battrang village school lies 30 kilometres north west of the former French colonial town of Battambang. Battrang is a typical rural school, educating local children from ages 6 to 12 years.
Most of the costs of building come from private donations, making possible new classrooms and a new library.
Building continues in phases depending on the availability of funds.
Labovitch has been delighted to sponsor day trips and picnics for villagers to see ancient Khmer, temple ruins (circa 1000 AD) in the province, which would not be accessible without motorised transport. This helps appreciation of Cambodia's rich history and cultural heritage.
Banteay Chmar is a lesser known temple complex 70 Km from Battrang. Despite the ravages of time, earthquakes and encroaching jungle, priceless and beautiful carvings and structures are still accessible.
We will continue to support the Battrang school building project and village social events.
